About Dennis Blair

Dennis Herman Blair, a hard-throwing right-hander out of Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California, was Montreal's fifth-round pick in the 1972 draft. He debuted at 19 on May 26, 1974, tossing a complete-game win over Philadelphia, and went 11-7 with a 3.27 ERA as an Expos rookie that summer. His 1975 Topps #521 card — his recognized rookie card — captures his busiest big-league season: a career-high 27 starts and 163.1 innings, good for an 8-15 record as Montreal's staff struggled for run support. Five-game stints closed out his time in Montreal in 1976 and his major-league career with the 1980 San Diego Padres, leaving him with 19 wins, 178 strikeouts and a 3.69 ERA over four seasons. Blair went on to earn degrees from Cal State San Bernardino and Lamar University, then spent nearly two decades teaching special-needs students in Texas school districts.
