1975 Topps #525 Tom House

About Tom House
Thomas Ross House, a left-hander out of USC, was drafted by the Braves in the third round of the 1967 secondary draft after turning down an earlier offer from the Cubs. He debuted with Atlanta on June 23, 1971, and spent five seasons in the Braves bullpen working mainly off a curveball and screwball. His best year came in 1974, a 1.93 ERA over 102 2/3 innings that ranked him among the National League's save leaders -- the same season he was stationed in the Atlanta bullpen on April 8 when Hank Aaron's record-breaking 715th home run landed in his glove, and he sprinted it to home plate to hand to Aaron. Traded to Boston after the 1975 season shown on this card, then sold to Seattle, House closed out an eight-year career in 1978 with a 29-23 record, 33 saves and a 3.79 ERA. He later became one of baseball's most influential pitching coaches, mentoring Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan in Texas.
