About Will McEnaney
Left-handed reliever William "Will" McEnaney was born February 14, 1952, in Springfield, Ohio, and was picked by the Reds in the eighth round of the June 1970 draft. He debuted July 3, 1974, retiring Tommy John, Davey Lopes and Bill Buckner in his first inning of work — a rookie season captured on his 1975 Topps card #481, his recognized rookie issue. In 1975 he went 5-2 with 15 saves for the pennant-winning Big Red Machine, then closed out Game Seven of the World Series with a perfect ninth inning. He was just as clutch in 1976, throwing 4⅔ scoreless innings in the Series and finishing the clinching game of a four-game sweep of the Yankees for his second straight ring. Traded to Montreal that December, he later pitched for Pittsburgh and St. Louis, closing a six-year career after 1979 with a 12-17 record, 3.76 ERA and 148 strikeouts across 269 appearances, all in relief.
